Wow - our Cafe Day was today and it was brilliant!!! We had to postpone it from during Term 3 when our topic was 'Actions Speak Louder than Words'... but in the end it ended up fitting in perfectly with this term's topic of 'Culture Club'.
Everyone in Moana Learning Hub was involved.... our whanau baked delicious food, we decided what entertainment we should have (especially to showcase all our talents) and invited guests - namely our elders.
We had the first 3 weeks of term to practice and get ready... we had ukelele playing, singing, dance, gymnastics, jump jam and finished with a haka. We had a full hall of guests and everyone had a very, very enjoyable time!
We did such a good job that we were even able to sit down together at the end and indulge in some of the baked goodness that was left over!
Many thanks to everyone who helped us: before, during and after!!
Here is a video with just a snippet of the awesome entertainment enjoyed through the morning....
Blogger doesn't have an option to display your posts in reverse order - so that the oldest post is first, and the most recent post is last. But this article describes displaying your posts in this way by manipulating their post dates. And it links to an article about some other possible options. Previously I've discussed the options for giving your blog a home page. One option is to organise the post-date for each of your posts, so that you control the order posts are displayed in. This is easy enough to do, although there are a couple of risks that you need to be aware of as discussed below. Blogger Posts and the Post-date Each Post in your blog has a date-time value, which is called its "post-date". Normally , this is set to the date/time when you publish the post for the first time. But you can change the post date for any post , and you can do this either when you publish it first, or later on. The post-date is important because it control...
Our Huia reading group was given an interesting question from Koka Ngaire... is Graffiti Art or Vandalism? We read a couple of L4 texts and looked at a video about the history of graffiti and we had to form our opinion from these and our prior knowledge. We all came to the conclusion that it depends. It depends where it is and what the message is... WHAT DO YOU THINK? We would love to hear your feedback in the comments. Koka Ngaire took some photos of real life graffiti and street art in Melbourne - we had lots of discussion about those! Have a read through a couple of examples of our presentations.... from Kaya, Carys, Daniel B and Obe
This QuickTip introduces a useful post about password management from Google. Giving computer or password-management advice to people who don't have lot of experience with IT has always been challenging: there is a lot of background information that you need to know before it all starts to make sense. And eaching colleagues to use a mouse back in the 1990s was a lot easier than explaining on-line services and security is in the twenty-teens! I know that I'm not the only person who struggled to explain the difference between email and gmail to someone who just didn't understand " gmail is one type of software for doing emails " - he just kept asking "so what does fmail do?" To help with this challenge, Google have released a very carefully written article with advice about managing passwords. My guess is that lots of research went into working out exactly how much someone who uses a few on-line services needs to know, and how to explain it simply. Th...
