Spectacular Speech Finals!

Congratulations to our Nui speech finalists!   The finals were held this morning and they were all to a very high standard.  Koka Claire (who is a trained Speech and Drama teacher) was the judge and commented on the content and delivery of each speech.

The winners were Isabel (Year 5) and Chloe (Year 6).  A big shout out to all of our Moana Learning Hub students who participated!

Catapults for TinkerLab!

Image
Today for TinkerLab our challenge was to make catapults! Koka Ngaire and Koka Rachel gave us: - 15mins - 8 iceblock sticks - 5 rubber bands - one bamboo spoon Our challenge was to create a catapult capable of getting a pompom over the 3 metre line in buddies! We created first... lots of talking, collaborating, thinking, trying out, thinking, making changes and perseverance. We then came back together to share.  Some were more successful than others! This was our learning.  We also looked at some other successful catapults and discussed how we needed to create a 'bounce' or resistance to create force and distance. We then had another create time.  We all made changes/improvements and then came back together to share again.  This time a lot of the catapults made it over the 2m mark and Giacomo, Jamai, Lani and Taj got their's over the 3 metre mark! It was a lot of fun!

This article is about putting a "tooltip" (text that is shown when you hover over) into something (eg text, a web-address or even a picture) in a Blogger post or gadget. What are tooltips? You can see them in Blogger's Post Editor when you put your mouse over an item in the toolbar. But tool-tips can be used on other things too, including pictures and text: put your mouse over This Text to see one. They can be particularly...

How to rename picture files in Picasa-desktop

Image
This article is about re-naming files from within Picasa-desktop, to provide SEO benefits for your blog. Picasa's desktop software is a good tool for organizing and editing photos on your local computer.   And it is still available for you to use on your computer, even though Picasa-web-albums has been replaced by Google Albums + Google Album Archive. For pictures that are important in your blog, I still recommend preparing them in a tool like Picasa-desktop and then uploading the finished versions to Google Photos before putting them into a post, because: The desktop tool has better editing tools (cropping, zooming, auto adjustment, adding watermarks) and Picasa-web-albums does. It lets you control the size of the uploaded file It's easier to ensure sure that you still have full-size files on my local machine for printing etc, as well as smaller, more optimized, copies to use on web-pages. Picasa-desktop folders have a very nice relationship with files and directories with t...
